The Port.

« We published the other clay, the opinion held by the present Minister of Marine, of this port. He asserted that the trade had fallen off to what it was two years ago ! We suggested that the Railway Commissioners might enlighten him about the trade, and we instanced the fact that special trains had to be run to overtake the goods traffic. Of course the Government, if there is one, or Messrs Seddon and McKenzie, if they are the Government, do not desire to know any more than what will suit their desire to cut off expenditure in the districts which returned Opposition members. As it is not likely the Minister will inquire of the Kailway Commissioners, we may as well state that their opinion is very well shown, as they are now expending money at the wharf, in putting in a weighbridge. This conclusively proves that the Railway Commissioners expect a pretty large increase in the import of minerals, or that they are very reckless with the public money. No one will accuse them of the latter, and therefore the Minister of Marine has evidently fallen into one more error.
