Horowhenua County Council.
The ordinary meeting of the Horowhenua County Council was held on Saturday. Present — Crs Kebbell (Chairman), Sinicox, Best, Atkins, Toinpsitt, Bills, Davies, and Venn. CORRESPONDENCE . From Messrs Kirk an<L. Atkinson, on behalf of Mr DeaUi, strongly objecting to proposed Rite of cemetery at Monafcan, and expressing intention of strongly opposing the same,From- .Secretary of Fitzherbert Road Board, stating they cannot, incur cost of roads connection with County Road, but have no objection to the Horowhenua Council doing any work in the' district. *\ The following resolutions were carried : — That a transfer of slaughtering yards be granted to Carpenter and Bevan ; also transfer from J. H. Wallace to Bell arid Jury. That this Council agree to W. and M. Railway Co's request rehanding over to them the abandoned roads near Makerua. That this Council takes the necessary steps to declare that the Public Pound at Shannon is now open for public use. That Crs Venn, Davies, and Xornsitt be a committee to meet the com* inittee of the Manawatu County Council re Ferry punt and other business at Shannon. ; That the County Banger be authorised to have the culvert on the county road near Waitohu Creek lengthened and placed in a proper position to carry off the creek water. f ' That the report of the Cemetery Committee be agreed to, but in consideration of objections raised the matter be held over until after a meeting, to be held on the night of the 22nd April next at Manakau and that the Manakau ratepayers who have asked the , attendance of the select any other l solta§iP|BJ«M £fip will not be objected;^ |y^J^p^e| to be laid before jy&e meeliflg^^ws consideration, and- that a Copy, of this resolution be sent to the Chaifman of the meeting, Mr A. W,;f€axkeek. V That this Council agrees to adopt the bridge site at the Waikanae river just west of the present railway bridge, as proposed by the joint Committee of both Councils, and that a copy of this resolution signed by the Chairman and sealed with the Council's seal be sent to the Hutt County Council. That one month's extension of time be given for registry of dogs at reduced rates.. That notice be given, that it is the intention of this Council at its next meeting on the 9th May, 1891, to strike a County rate of 3-4ths of one penny in the &/sa. the rateable value of all rateaWff^fcoperties in the ridings of Wirokino, Otaki, and Te Horo in the Horowhenua County, for the period from the Ist April, 1891, to the-Blst March, 1892, and the same will become due and payable when struck in one instalment at ' the County office, Otaki, on and after the Ist June next, and the rate book will be opened for inspection during office hours. That this Council is of opinion that as many patients from the north of the Manawatu are admitted into the Wellington Hospital, as coming from this county, and that the action proposed by its representative, Mr G. M. Kebbell, may tend to the practice complained of being discontinued, this Council is of opinion that all patients resident outside ,he boundaries of the contributing (bodies should pay towards maintenance and if unable, their maintenance should be recovered from the Charitable Aid or Hospital fund of the district from which they come, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the chairman of the Hospital Trustees. The following tenders s wqre* accepted : — Contract H., left to engineer ; contract J., Macauliffe.*; - m tract W., J. McColl ; contract X., J". Breen ; 'contract L., Rowe, 1 Milner & Matheson ; fencing, Otaki, W. Hakaraia, if his father will sign the contract. Also accepted by Te Horo Board : — Contract No 7, Mangadne Road, G. Cootes.— Standard.
