The Canadian Elections.

It is satisfactory to learn by the cables that the elections have resulted in favour of the Government, and therefore, for the union of the Empire, Sir J. Macdonald's majority being 3/5. The Maritime provinces, have supported the Government by sweeping majorities, but in Ontario the Opposition gained eleven votes, and in Quebec the Government had a small majority. Evidently the fight has been on internal management, rather than on the great question of remaining a portion of the Empire. We reminded our readers that the Roman Catholic votes was veiy strong in the two provinces where the Government have suffered, and the education question will be found to have had much to do with the disposal of the votes.
