Death of Mrs Wood.

On Sunday last, at Shannon, Mrs Wood, a very old settler, passed peacefully away to a better land, at the ripe age of 84. To our younger readers the deceased lady will net be known further than aa the mother of her children, as owing to the infirmities consequent upon her age, she had not moved away from hom<>, nor, for many years had she seen any but her most intimate friends. The late Mrs Wood was very we 1 conuected in the < 'Id Country, and previous to her settling at Moutoa, some twentyfour or twenty -five years ago, both her and her husbaud assisted the present Bishop of Wellington, then Archdeacon Hadfield, at his mission farm at Otaki. Mrs Wood's death will be regn tted by her many old friends, even though it was only natural to hear of it, as for more than a year past she has been seriously ailing. At her home at Moutoa, where she was best known, she exercised the kindest hospitality, and the young people of twenty-two years ago, used to make her house a point to visit. It is difficult to go through life without having a hard word said about one, but for the number of years the deceased lady resided in this district, we never heard anything but words of kindness used when sp aking of her. Mrs Wood lost her husband during their stay at Moutoa about eighteen years ago, and he was buried in the Poxton Cemetery, where her sons propose to lay her, by his side. The family left, are a married daughter in England Mrs George Richardson, Mrs (lark Dunn, Miss Wood, and her grandchild Miss Lena Wood, also her tour sons, John, Thomas, George, and Albert, the last six of which resided with her at Shannon. We tender our sympathy to the family. It has been arranged to have the funeral on Wednesday, which will be timed to arrive at the cemetery at 3 o'clock.
