Tho Honourable Dv Pollen moved the i'j lowing motion : — '' Thai this Council clesms to rcc.rd its high appreciation of the efficient mid courteous manner in which the Hon. Sir W. Fitzhprh rfc, K. C. The Hou Dr Pollen said he had heard with very great regret that )>robably befo.e the Council's expression of opinion had time to reach Sir William Fitzherbert their old friend would have passed away, and therefore he asked leave to move the above motion without notice. The Hon Mr Stevens, in seconding the motion referred to the vast amount of good fcir William had done the Colony in the early dayp, and to the benefit that past generations had derived from his services. He believed there was no man who had taken such an active part in the Colony's politics who had more sincere friends than Sir William Fitzherberc, and the example set by him should prove an incentive to the youth of the Colony to follow in that honourable gentleman's footsteps. The Honourable the AttorneyGeneral said that as the nearest relative to Sir William Fitzherbert, he thanked the hon. gentlemen for the very kind expression of opinion and would take the earliest opportunity of conveying the same to Sir WiUiam Fitzherbert. The Hon. Speaker, as an oM colonist and a friend of Sir Willi.iin Fitzherhe.tt, said he also endoi>ci| all that had fallen from tho hon. gentlemen who had preceded him, and would take the earliest opportunity of conveying the resolutio jus! pnsbed to the late Speaker. The motion was then carried unanimously, and the Council adjourned at 2- 50 p m.
