Manawatu County Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday when there were present — Crs Robinson Saxon, Masters Hammond McKenzig

and Ransom (chairman). From Joseph Beaie, drawing attention to the fact that he had no road laid off from the land he had bought in the Oroua Downs Station. From the clerk to the Manawatu Road Board, in reply to one from Mr Cox, stating that he had called the attention of Warden Were to the state of the Awahuri bridge. The balance sheet for the halfyear ending September 80, 1890, was received duly certified to by the Con* trailer and Auditor-General. Proposed by Cr Saxon, seconded by Cr Master, and carried, " That the letter of the Horowhenua County Council re claim for money, be left for discussion until next meeting, to allow the chairman time to look up former proceedings of the council. On the motion of Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Saxon, it was resolved, " That Hv Hankins be allowed to employ an authorised surveyor in laying off roads in Moutoa swamp. Proposed by the Chairman, " That the action of Mr Saxon, in calling tenders for metalling Swainson'sline, be confirmed." — Seconded by Cr McKenzie and carried. Moved by Cr Saxon, seconded by Cr Robinson and carried, " that the application of Messrs Rutherford, Simpson and Person, for renewals of slaughtering licenses, be granted." It was resolved on the motion ot the Chairman, seconded by Cr McKenzie, " That Mr Tomlinson's resignation' as dog-tax collector and collector of tram accounts, be accepted when the money due to the council is received." Proposed by the chairman, and sefconded by Cr McKenzie, " That the clerk be instructed to sue for all outstanding tram 'accounts." — Carried. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr McKenzie, and carried, " That the dog-tax be 2s 6d a dog for the ensueing year, and that the clerk be appointed collector," On the motion of the Chairman seconded by Cr Hammond, it was resolved to hold the council's ordinary meetings on the second Wednesday in each month until altered by resolution of the council. Tenders were then opened for the various works, and the tender of R. Bowler was accepted for metalling 31 chains of Swainson's line at £1 15s per chain ; that of J. H. Anderson & Co for metalling 30 chains on the Sandon-Foxton road at £2 16s 6d per chain ; and the tender of T. Coker for metalling 40 chains on the Rosina-line at £2 per chain. The report of the Ranger showed that during the month he had impounded 29 horses, 26 sheep, 20 head of cattle, and 2 bulls. The Overseer's report was then read. Proposed by Cr McKenzie, seconded by Cr Hammond, and carried, " That the Overseer be instructed to give H. Rockell notice to complete his contract at once or the work will be taken out of his hands and completed at his expense." Tenders were ordered to be called for delivering 60 yards of metal on the Canipbelltown-LongDurn-road, and part of Banks-line; also for claying 49 chains on the Foxtonroad. Tenders were also ordered to be called for work on Tomkins-Kellow-line, so as to make the road passable for carts, and for metalling about 20 chains of Campions-line, and for 5 chains of formation on Taylor's-line ; tenders to be in by next meeting in each instance. Proposed by Cr Hammond, and carried, " That the Rangitikei County Council be requested to cause a gateway to be opened at the end of the road leading to the Rangitikei Bridge so that stock may be watered and riders may be able to ford the river instead of crossing the bridge." The Council then adjourned to the 10th February. — Advocate
