In a statement made by the Mayor of Wellington to the Council last week, he is reported to have raised the question of State aid to the largo Boroughs as follows: — "The question of whether or n >fc the State would be justified in giving aid to municipalities had often recurred to him, and he had never been able to dismiss as unworthy of consideration a process by which communities forming a large part of the populati nof (he colony would certainly gain relief.
