Foxton School Committee.
A meeting of the Foxton School Committee, was held at Mr Ray's office yestu'dny afternoon at three o'clock. Present - U'-ssrs Thy no (Chairman) .Ray, McMi lan, Spring and Futrie. It was proposed by Mr Th3'nnp and seconded by Mr Spring, That the parts of " the Education Act 1877" from S-ction 89 to Section 93 both inclusive shall come into force in the school district of Foxton. The Chairman explained that these were the compulsory attendance c'ausea, and only affecfed children between th" ages of seven and thirteen }-ears of age, an', who resided within two miles from the school That the children were only com pelled to attend half the number of school days. It had been represented that there were a number of children living near the school who never attended, and as the ct gave every opportunity for parents to show cause why tho child does not attend, he thought it would be as well to give the Clauses a trial. I he resolution on being put to the meeting, was carried unanimously. Mr Furrie proposed and Mr -pring seconded that the resolution be advertised in the Manawatu HeraldCarried. Mr Thynne proposed and Mr McMillan seconded ' hat Mr J. T. Ray be and is hereby appointod Clerk of the Cammitteo without romuneration -Carried.
