The Manawatu Rowing Club.
On Tuesday afternoon the following heata for the silver medals were rowed : — Blackby against Cook, sculling, in whioh Blackbv came in an easy first. McMillan against P. Curtis, sculling, This heat was won by McMillan, but some little difficulty occurred half way down about the course taken and McMillan fouled Curtis. Tbe two agreed, after a discussion, to complete the race and started from where the foul occurred, but Curtis laboured tbe rest of the distance by keeping in too shallow water, and McMillan came in first, well ahead. The final heat of the pair* was got off at ">.30, being between i\ Curtis and Hunter, and C. and J. Symons. The two boats got away well-together, and spurted to a distance below the Pah, when Curtis" crew got tlie lead which they increased to a few lengths at the old ferry. C. Symons' crew then put on a good spurt, which brought them up half the distance previously lost ; these positions they kept to the finish. Curtis' ciew thus won by three lengths. Mr McPhun acted ns starter and Mr Short as judge. Yesterday afternoon Cowles and Potter rowed thoir heats for the sculling race. Cowles came in first by a few lengths. This evening tbe following events will be got off. McMillan against Cowles aud F. Curtis against Blackby.
