Mp.y I also ask you \o make arrangements wILb the Churchwardens anu Veslrymen for lecuving the punctual quarterly payment of the assessment, from Ist October next. " I should have mentioned that Mrlnnes , Jones has accepted the charge on the abore terms, from the Ist of October, " I am. &c, " Thomas Fancccbt, " Diocesan Secretary." Mr Stewart explained that no Churchwardens or Vestrymen had been appointed, nor could be, until a curate was in charg". No notice had as yet been taken of Mr Fan* eourt'sletter. In . answer to questions, Mr Stewart gfcato.l that the income of oF the Church was £50 a year, and the expenses including organist) £25 ' a year 1
Mr A. S. Easton said that hither 1 to they had always been able to find the £50 a yeav, even when there was a larger debt upon the church* Mr Ray thought that we should always be behind with our share of the stipend, and that such an ft", rangemeni as proposed would spoil all chance of getting a resident clergyman for the district. After further conversation it was resolved. That this meeting is of opinion that the visit of a Clergyman once a month to Foxton will not meet the needs of the Church, and will' not be likely to arouse such ad* ditional interest in the services of the Church as to increase the offertories to the extent necessary to pay the £50 required towards- the Clergyman's stipend, and that the Bishop be informed that this- meet* ing is unable therefore to guarantee the payment of that sum.
