"What a Splendid Liar ! "
The funniest story yet told by Stan-1 ley, and which comes in quite apro^ pos jw- now, is that one day while conversing with a friendly tribe during his recent travels one of the chiefs pre .ent inquired how many wives he possessed. Upon Stanley innocently replying that he had none, all those present stood ud like ono mau, unanimously exclaiming, "what a splondid liar!" They intensely admired the apparent calmness with whicli he had, as they thought, tried to pass off on thorn a wondrous traveller's tale.
