In dealing with the Estimate last night, Mr J. C. Brown talced for information as to th» earliest date at which the general election could take place. The Colonial Secretary said the redistribution of seats could not take effect until the present Parliament diiHolv^d — on the sth of October -and couaequently the Registrars of Electors could not bt appionted until then. The Bftgistrars would have 30 days in which to make up the rolls and and the writs were returnable 42 days later, so tha there wa« a margin of 72 days after the Parliament conld meet. The Hon Mr Rallanee said in that ease the '** should be amended so at to enable the Begiatrare to make up the new rolls at once.
