The Concert.

xnp nottSe WAS crowded, and, perhaps as as might; have been expected, rather rowd . The perfoi'ittei'S however did tlieiv portions well; MA tfHK ft little 1 better . The trio, by the three little girls, was vociferously encored and a verse was sung in response, Miss Harley is to be complimented on her care in teaching these little ones. Miss Harley's song which followed, was very well . rendered. Mr Woodhara again assayed another recitation, but there is a f ate mote powerf ill than his will, Which ordains a failure. We regret that after one or two trie *he turned and fled; Miss Williams sang two songs iti her usual pleasing, manner. , The audience were favdiired by a riew volunteer; in the perso.i of Mr 3tariseli wild 9a"rig "Mrs Jones' Musical party "to the full satisfaction of the audience. 'Mr Denton gave a very shorb Violin Solo, and had the great advarita.e of being accompan ed by Miss Leary on the piano. Miss Hawkins sang " Tlie song that reached my heart" most pleasingly and received a well merited encore. Mr <fe Miss Stansell played a pianoforte duet " Qui Vive " most spiritedly, making one wish there had been room to have utilized it, in a dance. Mr Haybittle gave two recitations which received the compliment of an encore. Mis<Leary's p'anoforte selection displayed h-r taste and command over the instrument and deserved more applause than was awarded to it. The hornpipe by Mr Keating of course just fetched the house, and a part repetition was lou<ll,y : insisteclon. Miss S'iort. another lady new jjto a Foxton audience played the overture to the sec -nd part, and it is a matter ot much pleasure to know that she has become a resident in tbe town. Mr Fume's " Johnny _ Hands" caused the aiidi tide to join in the ohovousi and he was for.-cd to appear arid repeat a verse. Miss Tansley sang her song very prettily, an 4 reminded old residents of her mother's past efforts. The gem of the evening to our mind was the trio of " The dear little Shamrock by the Misses Hawkins and Cook and Mr Cook their voices blended sweetly toget er, and the son.} upset the feelin.'S of certain of the Iri«h audience, that i hey felt compelled, though not to the | advantage of the piece, to join in now and then. The Misses Hawkins and Cook also sang in the first part, the duet " O'er the 8.,1, O'er the Dale," wh>ch was very nicely rendered. Miss Symons sang — " Gates of tie Wtst" in her usual c ear style, and the conoert ended with a comic by Mr Philpot, which was duly encored. Unfortunately the audience wanted fun and noise move than music, and the best pieces were undoubtedly overlooked, but piobabl" the performers were well aware oil this. The whole days proceedings therefore passed off most satisfactorily, and a number of the young people, whom seem never to have enough of a good i.hing, continued the r amusements into this movning, by holding a daaoe at tlie conclusion oc tiie concev . The cash taken at the doors amounted to £14 10s aud tic!cei- a were sold to the value of £o 10s so th c CUlb will tlevive a lavge pecuniary benefit.
