A Good Order.
In the Bailway Guide for 1890 the Railway Commissioners publish the scale of charges and regulations under which ia'lway ■ refreshment rooms on the railways 'are licensed. The rooms are to be kept iv an or derly manner ; the list of refreshments and prices must/be exhibited by the licensee ; the sot-t^ble rooms are at the stations of Mercer, Timavn, and Oamaiu ; the counter refreshment rooms are at Halcornbe, J£aitold Christchurch, AahburfcoriY-'Fal* merston South, and Dunedin. At the set rooms the lessee is required to have set table meals, meals ready, which rno.y include noup or fish, ?\u\ hot joint, beef, mutton, lamb, or pork, a'so potatoes, with some other vegetable in season, fVeih while bread, hu'ter and cheese, marmalade, salad, pickles, lettuce, celery, or tomntne^. and a large cup of tea or coffen. Itf lieu of the joint, chops, steaks, ham and eggs, sausages, ov oo'd barn may be supplied when ordered. Table napkins of linen or paper to be provided. The hot joints must be on the tab c on the a-rival of tbe through pa«senger trains and th« other articles in readi' nesg with attendants to come expediiionsly and wait upon th« pnssengers. For the set table refieshments the ohn if ge is 2s. At the counter refresh in en t rooms the chTi'gf^ for sundries at the noinvi,or are — lavgo sandwiches 6d, half do od, lii'-gecup of co?ee3d t bun, roll or seed cake 2d, glass'; s£ fresh wilk 2d. Liquors and cigar? are so7d at the same rate as in hotels. Paseyvn* gers who consider tbey^i.ave reason to complain should do 'so <to. 'the stationmaster. The last clause' in the regulatiops refers to tbe supply o f " e'ear and pure drinking wa<;ev properly fi^terfd," which is to be « n p. plied free of charge to all rrilway t.avellevs.
