Loan and Mercantile Agency's London Circular of Deccember 28fch, speaking of New Zea land hemp, says :-The decline in vaiues deferred to in our last issue has b -en confirmed during the past month, and latterly, "partly owing to the incidence of the holidays, the market h s become extremely quiet, and to effect sales a further decline of 103 per ton has been accepted. At auctions some 8000 bales have been goffered, of which about 5500 bales have found buyers at and shortly after the sales. Good to welldressed Lytteltou realised from £20 10s to '£31 per ton ; good medium Wellington, well clean, from £29 10s to £30 per ton; and fair madium from L2B 10s to L 29 per ton ; while rather strawy parcels of fair colour brought £iom L 27 10a to LBB per ton, Jpoorly cleaned and off colour from L 26 10s to L 27 per ton, and ordinary coarse and strawy fibre from L 25 to L 26 per ton. "Hackled " hemp, short to fairly long, ■ has been in rather better demand at from L 24 to L' 26 10s per ton Some 500 bales good Auckland tow have been disposed of at auction at L 7 per ton, and 100 bales Wellington at from L 5 10s to L 6 17s 6d per ton. The market for Manila during the earlier part,of the paßt month continued firm, and values marked a distinct advance ; but latterly a, quieter tone has prevailed, frjil prices close somewhat belo-f jtl#highest point. On the spot, ' rcwrrent " is now quoted at L 45 15a to L4G 5s per ton, c.i.f. Sisal has been rather pressed for sale to arrive without attracting demand ; on the^pot it.is qaoted^nominally at about L 42 per ton.
