Cr Jenks brought up the subject of Mrs Co ey's cow travelling up the drain in Johnson street and eating the young shoots of the willows planted on its banks. The Mayor moved, and Cr Jenks seconded—That Mr Ray's opinion as solicitor be taken as to the liability of certain carters to pay the license fee for plying for hire or contract in the Borough. The Mayor thought it best to employ a solicitor as they were fighting for a principle. Cr W l iams thought it strange that having only the other day they had passed a bye-law, and now he says we do not understand it. He thought the by-law was very clear. If there was any difficult case cropping up, it might be different, but the carters had acknowledged their liability but had not paid. He thought the clerk should issue summonses at once. The resolution being put was declared carried. After discussion re painting pound board it was resolved. That tenders be called for painting pound board, in accordance with the act, and that Crs Williams, McMillan and Jenks be a committee for accepting the same It was resolved, That tenders be cal ed for carting drift sand from bottom of cuttings on road from Whibley's to T.
