THE SPORTS MEETING.
Yesterday afternoon a few gentlera n met at Whyte's Hotel to take into consideration tho advisablenesss of holding- some sports on tho Prince of Wales' Birth ay. Mr Thynne was voted to the chair. After a little discussion it was decided to provide sports, and a pro^ gramme, v ry similar to that; fram^ii for the Druids Sports of last Ma^ch, was agreed to. A new race was j tt^ troduned. styled an obstac l^ y^Q^ which wns described as pvovidiD.^ fuii. The following co* ja inittee was elected with, power to add to their number, via : — Messrs E. S. Thynne. I T. P. Williams, ,T. K. McMillan, and J. E. Stej>.B6ii. itess* & Hunter aud Bradcoek were appoir /te^ handic ppers. r . J. K. McMilan was elected <TOr usurer, Mr Thynne judge, Mr •| r *mes I iddell secretary, and Mr starter.. It was decided to hold the sports in the paddock adjoining- the Public Hall. The nominations were fixed to be in by 8 p.m on Saturday, the 9th instant, and the acceptances must be delivered to the >'ecrotary not later than 10 a.ni on Monday. Jt was decided to advertise ilxo programme, and to havt; posters printed. It was agreed that au effort should b» made to obtain a good band from Wei ington. Subscription lists will be issued, to which it was believed, the publ c would generously subscribe. A list was opened in the room when £< r > 13s fid was' at onca obtained. The next r^ 6 (,ti n g o f the committee was fixed for Monday. |
