Manawatu County Council.
The above met on Tuesday at Sanson. Present -. Ore ? axon, Mitchell, Me Lennan, Eobinson, hansom, San* son, Hammond, and Me Kenzie. Cr Eansom was elected Chairman in place of Cr Me Kenzie, resigaed. The following is the correspondence of most interest : — ■ From A. Edwards, Mbutoa, with regard to the £2 deposit he had made on a contract. The Clerk stated that the money had been returned, and that he was about to sue the father ol the applicant for rates due. .. Mr E. Howe, Shannon, detailing particulars of the accident to the Shannon ferry recently, when it overturned with a dray load of Birchley and Co' s fibre, and asking; that the cutting shou d be widened and the punt tnlarged. . Or Mitchell remarked that the punt was not large enough to take such large loads as was put U|.on it at the time of the mishap. / The Clerk stated that he had seen in the Fozton paper that Bi chley & Co. were about to sue the Council, and reference waa also made to the fact that the Council had I taken no notice of a previous claim made by ' the same firm. No such claim had, however reached the Council. The following resolutions were agreed to :— ..■ _.' Besolved, 1 hat tenders be called for the flax in the * wahou, and £awa Kawa ridings at per ton! '"'*" ' That the motor { Fox * be purchased from the Government at £500, provided the engine be painted and delivered at < arharvon Junction; alio that the usual set of tools, lamps, jacks; etc., be supplied with her. That the General County Fund for the year 1889-90 be apportioned at per schedule attached. Carr:ed. That immediate application be made to the Crown Lands' Commissioners for the transfer of the Ferry Reserve or the rent of the same, at the mouth of the Eangitikei river to this Council, on the ground that the ferry is, and has been, for the last ten years, a considerable drain on the county funds. Carried . That Mr Bray be requested to inspect the tramway, and report to the Council as soon as pdi'ible; and should such report be favourable the Tram Committee be authorised to pay the balance of Mr Beid's de-
._,. .-rfatu. .- ■ posit to him. Carrie!. That Mr Fraser be informed that this Council had nothing to do with dimming the stream referred to in hisletter of the Ist July, 1889. That tenders be called for claying the Taikorea road. Accounts wete passed for payment, and the Council then adjourned to the 6th. of .-V ugust.— Advocate.
