» Monday Ist July. {Before Messrß Thyn..o and Russell Eggs. J. P.'b) Criminal. William Sandbrook was charged with .having assaulted and beaten Thomas P. Williams at the Manawatu hotel on 29th. June last. The prisoner pleaded not guilty, The evidence of T. P. Williams, George V\ illiams and the, constable having been taken the Bench decided that the assault was proved, and sentenced the prisoner to seven days imprisonment with hard labour in Wanganui ga.ol. William Sandbrook was charged with refusing to., leave the Manawatu hotel on when re-

quested to do so by the licensee, t The prisoner pleaded not guilty, and as the evidence was not c ear that he was directly asked, the charge was dismissed. William f-andbrook was charged i with having refused to leave the Foxton Family fcotel oil 29th June ] when requested to do so "by *be i licensee. The prisoner pleaded not guilty, but. "W. Hunter and the Constable having proved the fact of his having been requested io leave' and having refused to do so, the prisoner was fined the sum of one pound. ."V^Uliam bandbrook was charged with having resisted the Constable in the execution of n'i§ doty on the 29th June. The prisoner pleaided not guilty. The evidence showed that when the constable was securing Wiliam Sandbrook, George Sandbrook calied tiptfn f those about, to prevent the constable from taking his prisoner. The appeal tvasf tot however attended to. The prisoner wad fined three pounds and costs 2s or 14 days imprisonment with hard labottr in Wanaanui gaol, in default of payment of fine. Gedfge Sandbrook was charged with asing obsdene language in the Main Street, Foxton, Htf p elided guilty. The language was used tod addressed principally to the constable, as he was conveying him to the lock up. The constable's evidence was corroborated by Mr W. Hunter, who was assisting him to carry the prisoner. The Bench ordered him to be imprisoned in Wanganui gaol with hard labour for fourteen days. George Sandbrook was also cha ged that he did resist the constable in the execution of his duty on the 30th June. He pleaded guilty, and was fined three pounds and costs 2s or fourteen days imprisonment in "Wanganui gaol, with hard labor.
