MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The above Council held its usual monthly meeting at Sanson on Tuesday. Present — The chairman and all the Counoiliors. The whole of the particulars have not come to hand, jJiough our cor« respondent promised them without fail. The most important business was the leasing of the tramway to Mr Brooks of Wellingt n for the tei-in of one year. The lessee gives the sum of JE6 a week to the Council free of all costs, but has a proviso that should the engine be unable to run tfefl ttnt can***.
The other tenderers were Messrs Tomlinsoj & Knowles. and Mr Me Intyre. The lessee enters into possession tora>iTow, but has arranged with Mr Reid to carry on the traffic for him, until he is able to bring his family up from Wellington. No tenders were accepted for Speedy's line, all being considered too high i (1 or Taylor's line there were two tenders, J. M nteiih at 17s 5d and James Me all at 23s 6d. We believe the lowest was accepted. For Hopkins line, metalling at per chain J. McCall at 52s 6d was the successful tenderer, the others being Anthony Nathan at 58s, Carmody and Fraser 60s, and Wilson and Richards at 60s.
