did Within one month last past steal - one blanket, one coat, and one vest, theproperty of John Hickey. The prisoner pleaded not guilty. John Hickey being sworn said — I am a blacksmith, and reside in Fexton ; I lived at Startup's; I went to Wellington on the 16th April and returned last Saturday; I found on going to the rooms nearly All my thtng» gone ;' I complained to the constable. I saw the prisoner in Wellington, but I did not authorise i him to take oharge of them ; I recognise the blanket, coat and vest pror.v duced as mine. Examined by prisoner—We were mates; I have worn someone else's hat. You did not tell me you would look after the blankets ; when I arrived here Guilford told me wherethe things were. Ido not say that you had not good intentions in taking my things. By the Bench— There was four of us living together in tho baok of the bootshop. Gtildford had the rooms. I have paid some of my share, but I owe some still. There has-been am alteration in the building since ii&y^ have been away. My things were in a bag, and some were hanging up. Saw Guildford at the door, he told me he thought Jonson and Reeve had some. a George Startup being sworn, deposed that he allowed Jafyn Hiokey to stay in the rooms with O^ilaford.
