OUR HARBOUR.

We have just received the following telegram from Mr Wilson. The following telegram reoeived from the Premier — "The Marine department report that there is not sufficient work for a permanent assistant but Pilot will be authorised to employ an extra hand when required." This is an admirable instance of a Government Departments knowledge of local requirements. They should be asked to give the pi ot the information of how is he to obtaiu the " extra hand" when he is required. At Wellington it may be easy to pick up a sailor when wanted, but it is certainly not the case here. A permanent hand is undoubtedly required, and this th? department could easily ascertain by an enquiry of the Pilot, aud is the only assistance that will be jf any uso to the Pilot, and to the shipping.
