THE DRUID'S SPORTS.
Thess sports were held yesterday on the ground by the hall, kindly lent by Mrs Whyte. The attendance did not look great, but the gate money showed that there was a large number present, as closo on £10 was taken for entrance to the ground. The feature in the sports were the small entrances by competitors, except in the handicaps. The handicappers did their work well, except in the case of R. Carter, who waa evidently a very dark horse, as he won every event he entered for with perfect ea-e, yet he had been given a yard or two start. It was rumoured that he was a professional, but he gave the handicappers no previous performances, so that he might only have been one who had taken the trouble to prepare himself. The officers worked well together, the Secretary, Mr Startup, having the heaviest duty, which he fulfilled in a pleasant and energetic maimer. Mr M'Millan, the judge, had a pretty easy time of it, only one race demanding his close attention, when a dead heat occurred fjr sec -nd place. The starters were Messis Hunter and Williams, and they gofc their men away with perfect fairness. Mr Walls acted as gatekeeper, and presented a very venerable appearance, bring comfortably seated round a table large enough to have taken thousands wf pounds on. The day was beautiful, and the whole of the programme was carried ont without a hitch. We congratulate |the committe on the success of the meetiug. The following are the events: — 1.
