The minutes of previous meeting were read anil continued* Letter read from Mr Davjea, requesting leave of absence. Letter read from Public Works Office, dated Ist August, enclosing copy of New Zealand Gazette No. 61, 28-7-51, containing proclamation re taking of land for a road in the Otaki Highways District Letter from the Chairman, in reply, dated Bth August, enclosing a copy of the Manawat u Herald containing the above named proclamation was read. Two letters from Mr Greenough, dated respectively 30th July and sth August, 1881, re nuisance were read. Letter read from Mr F. Bright and several other ratepayers, complaining of a nuisance and inconvenience caused by the blocking up of the culvert across the main J road through the township, and the cod. I

sequent filling in of the watertable leadiug from Mr Smith's corner past their several dwellings. Resolved, " That the Clerk be directed to inform Mr Bright and others who have sent in a complaint, that the matter will be attended to by the County Council, as it is not within the management of this Board." Proposed by Mr M'Crae, seconded by Mr Booth, and carried, "That the Chairman be authorised to take the necessary steps to have a survey made of a road leading inland from the river road, from a point shown on the map laid on the table." Accounts passed for payment — M. Oarkeek, survey, &c, £2 2* ; J. A. Knocks, office chair 3 and sundries, £1 7s. The claim of W. Dodds, and G. Eagar being considered excessive, was referred to a Committee of two for adjustment. The next ordinary meeting of the Board will take place om Wednesday, September 14, at 2 o'clock p. m.
