THE BIBLE-IN-SCHOOLS.
TO THE EDITOR OV THK MANAWATU HERALD. Sir,— You, in reply to my letter of May 30, ask what I mean by a right-thinking man. There are thousands of children educated by Government who will never know anything; of the Bible unless it is read to them in schools ; consequently the majority of these will grow up without any moral knowledge, of right from wrong, whioh means a class of people, who, if they can, will evade the law, wiu oommit crime without knowing they have done wrong. The man who advocates training these children to respeot the law cut of principle, I venture to say is a right-thinking man. You say Bishop Moran'a Lenten Pastoral proves nothing. The Bishop says that the Protestant schools are godless, and hostile ■to the Catholic Church. , Now, if they are godless, what makes them, so ? Who objeots to them being read in schools ? You advise me to admire the Catholics. 1 would admire' the Protestants if they were to manifest a similar amount' of tenacity In this matter. I am, &0., Word. Motto*, 13tk May, 1881.
