The various amendments already put down againßt the clauses of the Irish Land Laws Bill, for consideration in committee in the House of Commons, occupy 42 pages of the notice-paper. Consols are unchanged at 102£ . New Zealand securities are without quotable change. Adelaide wheat per 4961b5, ex warehouse, 48s ; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, per 2881bs, 83s 6d; New Zealand wheat, 445. Australian tallow, best beef, 84s 6d ;. best mutton, 86s 6d. Best Australian leather, ild. May 28. At the wool sale today 11,400 tales were offered, making a total of 105,100 bales catalogued since the opening. Less demand was^ experienced, and prices were occasionally easier. The Australian mails, via Brindisi, were delivered here today. Calcutta, May 23. Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that Ayoub Khan has openly announced his intention of seizing Candahar. It is, however, reported that such a movement on his part will meet with general resistance from the inhabitants of the city and surrounding districts. The Ameer Abdul Bahman is making active preparations for the struggle. Thomas Brennan, the Secretary of the Land League, a mercantile clerk in Dublin, has been arrested upon a warrant issued by the Viceroy under the provisions of the Coercion Act. Her Majesty the Queen has conferred the honor of knighthood upon the Hon. C. Lilley, Chief Justice of Queensland ; The Hon. James Prendergaet, Chief Justice of New Zealand ; and Mr John Gome, Chief Justice of Fiji. Th» Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George lißs been conferred upon Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor of Queensland. Sir F. D. Bell, Agent-General for New Zealand, and the Hon. A. H. Palmer, Colonial Secretary of Queensland, are created Commanders ; and the Hon. M. Fraser, Surveyor-General of South Australia, a Companion of the same Order. L Adelaide, May 24. The race for the Adelaide St.Leger, ■jjs9 soys, was won today by Progress. Melbourne, May 25. Fears are entertained for the safety of the barque Cumbria, which left Mauritius on March 15th forLaunceston. She was last seen on April 80th. The completed returns of the census taken on April 3rd, show the total population of Victoria to be 946,080. May 24. Further information has been received from the Admiralty with regard to the blowing up of H.M.S. Doterel in Magellan's Straits on April 20th. The survivors state that the explosions occurred, both about the same time, 10 o'clock in the morning, while the vessel was at anchor. They are unable throw any light upon the cause of the terrible disaster.
