OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.
» The meeting of the Board called for the 11th instant having lapsed for want of a quorum, the meeting was adjourned until the 18th in«t. Present— Messrs Simcox (Chairman), Hadfiold, M'Crae, andDavies. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Letter read from Mr W. Smith re putting up a verandah in front of his store. In reply, the Clerk was instructed to inform him that the Board has no power, and to refer him back to the County Council. Circular from Rangitikei County Council read. Letter read from Publio Works Department, re taking of land for road purposes. Circularfrom Chairman Manawatu County Council re delegates was read. Copy of memorial to His Excellency the Governor re taking of land for road purposes, was laid on the table. Letter from Public Works Office, in reply to memorial to take land for road purposes, was read. Proposed by J. Davies, seconded by J. M'Crae, and carried, "That the rate of sixpence in the £ on all properties in the Otaki Highways District from the lat of April, 1881, to the 3lst of March, 1882, as notified, be confirmed." The following accounts were passed for' payment : — Messrs Russell Bros., 13s 6d ; Messrs Dawson & Co., £G 7s 8d ; Fred. Bills, 8s 2d. Proposed by Mr Hadfiekl, seconded by J. M'Crae, and carried, "That the next meeting of the Board take place; on Wednesday, the Bth of June, at 2 o'clock p m.
