(REUTERS' TEL3GRAM3). London, April 19. A sculling race took place today at Southampton, between Edward Trickott and an oarsman named Kirby. The contest resulted in an easy victory for Trickett. April 20. The executors of the will of the late Earl of Beaconsfield have declined a proposal made by the Eight Hon. W. E. Gladstone that the funeral of the deceased should bo publicly performed. The will of the late Earl directs that his funeral should be of the most simple character, and that the body should be intened in his wife's vault at Hughenden. In consequence of the continued difficulty in the way of a settlement of the i'tirco-Greek frontier question, the Powers have now made a proposal to the Governments of the two countries that a convention should be held under their auspices with a view to bring about a complete and final determination of the frontier difficulty. Sydney, April 21. . Two hundred Chinese arrived yesterday by the steamer Crusader from Hongkong. April 22. It is reported that an auriferous quartz reef has been discovered at the Mount Browne goldfields. Sailed— Pacific Mail Company's steamship City of Sydney for San Francisco via Auckland ; Lady Gordon is a passenger for Now Zealand. New York, April 20. The American harvest prospeots are unfavorable, owing to the crops generally having been severely damaged by frost.
