A REMARKABLE STEAMER.

A very remarkable screw steamer is about to be built on the Cl3'de for tlif Oompasfnio de Navigation Economique (I imi ed) of Glasgow and Paris This vessel will have no funnel of ny kind, burning her own smoke, and her fonr masts will be p'need in pairs on the gunwale on projecting brackets to keep them clear of the. rails, boats. davits, &c , when folded down, this being done when the vessel is goii p liead to wind, so as to lessen the insistence offered by the masts, spars, sails, &c. On each mast will be placed a, large boom and gaff, and between the masts a large squaresail and topsail running on jackstays. The total width of sail set en each p ir of masts when running before the wind will be 147 feet in width and 127 feet in height. The effective horse powei will be 1500, so as to give the vessel a high rate of speed, and the fuel re quired will be only one half of an ordinary compound marine engine, a result which is obtained by superheat ing the water in the boiler by the introduction of a subsistence which n< co* not be named, and which subsanct is. 1 variable according to substances. The space occupied by the boilers. engines, and coal bunkers will be only one half that ot an ordinary steamer of the same power.
