• [special to manawatu herald.] Wellington, Thnrsday, 7 p.m. The Hon. Major Atkinson left for Taranaki this afternoon. He will address his constituents at Patea on Monday, probably declaring then the Government's policy. The Hon. Mr Rolleston leaves tomorrow for a tour round the North Island ou native business. The great native meeting in Wairarapa is now proceeding, but is not so successful as was anticipated by the natives. Only about GOO are presenttoday. The Governor visited the Kaikorai and Mosgiel Woollen Factories, the Caversham Industrial School, and the Dunedin University and Museum yesterday, and left for Invercargill this morning. He stopped at Balclutha en ronte, where he was welcomed by the Mayor, Town Council, and a crowd of townspeople. The usual address was presented, and after the Governor had replied, the party proceeded. The grain in Canterbury is coming in so fast as to completely block the railway : 27,000 sacks were waiting carriage on the night of the fifteenth, and loading capacity of the vessels on the berth at Lyttelton is not sufficient.
