Tho Company is formed fov the purpose of completing the construction of a Railway from Wellington tn the Mnnawatu, to join the Foxton and New Plymouth Railway. The- Government have agreed to recommend to Parliament thatT certain works constructed by them between Wellington and Johnsonville, along the course of the proposed Hue, the materials for a bridge over the Tori'ma Harbor, and a epiantity of rolling stock appropiiated to tois railway, with certain other valuable concessions, including land that may be reclaimed from the Wellington Harbor ir the progress of tho Railway works, should be granted to tlie Company, upon their giving a proper guarantee for the necessary purveys and estimates of cost, free of charge. _ From a preliminary examination of the country through which the line will pans, it has been estimated that the maximum cost of construction and of tho requisite rolling stock will not exceed £5000 per mile, and, therefore, taking into consideiation the value of the concessions promised by the Government, the Promoters believe that not moro than £350,000 of capital -will bo required to be railed up. It is proposed to raise at least £50,000 of the capital within the colony, payable as follows : — 2b Gd jier share on application, 2s Gd per share on allotment, and the resi due by calls not exceeding 5s per share, at intervals of not lees than three months. The country which will at once be brought into direct communication with the city and harbor of Wellington by this line of railway exceeds 4,5 0,000 aores in extent, comprising th« Porirua and Horokiwi Districts, the laTge and valuable tracts of land between Paikakariki and tho Manawatu {including the setilemerts of Otaki and Fitzherbert.,. tho Manawatu, Feilding, Rangitikei, Wanganui, and Patea districts, and tho rich nnd extensive 1-mds within the Provincial District of Taranaki, nnd looking to the facts that a very larg. extent of the above-mentioned country is already cultivated, and that it possesses immense resources which eau only be satisfactorily developed when brought into direct ra:lw»y communication with Wellington, and," moreover, that, tho proposed railway must form part of tho main trunk line fiom Wellington, lo Auckland, tho promoters feel confident that the traffic returns will, from the first, yield reasonable dividends upon the capital j expended, and that the line must ultimatt-ly | become a very profitable ono. : The company propose to ask for power to acquire the nativo lands between Otaki and tho Manawatu, through which the line will pacs, and should this power be granted to them, the promoters have reason io believe that the laud, when acquired, would speed ily be disposed of for settlement at a profitable r .te. In view of this, tho promoters are abo it to open negotiations with the native proprietors with respect to its .acquisition. As the construction of this railway has long been considered to be of the highest importance to the City of Wellington and the districts which will be brought into connection with it, the promoters trust that no difficulty will be experienced in obtain ing the £50,000 proponed to be raised in the colony. Should their expectations bo realised in this respect, the company will at ones be established, and application made to Parliament for the requisite authority to \ carry out the undertaking.
