NOTES FROM CAMPBELLTOWN.

(FROM OCP. OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Being extremely busy of late I plead as an excuse for not sending yon the result of the meeting of householders for the election of a new School Committee. Fivo of the old committee were re-elected, namely, Messrs Hunt, Bookman, Staff, Gray, and J. Reid, the two new members being Messrs Ransom and Bull. The Secretary gave a very favorable report of what had been done since April, that being the time the committee was formed. Subsequently, a meeting was held, when Mr W. Hunt was elected Chairman, and Mr J. Eeid Secretary and Treasurer for the current year. j The committee met again on Monday lasfc, to consider some important business, includeol in which was au application as teacher from a Mr E. Plowden. He had sent iv copies of testimonials he had wliich were, after a deal of discussion, held over i until uexb meeting. Judging from what I | can hear and see Mr Plowden will not do for us. To do him justice, he is, I believe, I a man of the first rank in mathematics | and tradition. By the way, Tarn glad to i say that the committee took up the idea of a soiree being held on tho opening of the school. The formed themselves into a committee to carry on. the arrangements. Several ladies in C unpbelltowa have kindly offered their services to supply (gratuitously) edibles fco a limited number. Ifc was suggested that a nominal charge of two shillings per adult be made, and that the proceeds be appropriated to the purchase of a harmonium to facilitate the singing in Divino Service, which will, I aupposu, be held in the school. There will be invitations given to several ladies and gentlemen who are gifted with eloquence and have a musical talent bestowed upon them. I think the soiree will take place aboufc the end of this month. I notice several desks have arrived for the school. The Highways Beard pay their debts rather tardily. Part of Sinks' road has been formed by Messrs Buchanan and party. They finished last October and got their work passed, but they have not been paid in full yet. There is, I believe, a balance of £20 owing. The Board pleads as au excuse that they are nofc in funds, but the mone> was to be paid by the County Council, and if that body gave the Highways Board the money they mnst be in funds or else they have spent it otherwise, which they had no right to do. Had Messrs Buchanan been defaulting ratepayers, the Board would have made their acquaintance through the medium of the R. M. Court before this. I would give the Board a few words of advice in the language of the old Latin proverb, "He who gives promptly gives twice as much ' The store that is going up in Campbelltown is now reaching completion. I say "a store," as 1 have been informed by Mr Dahl, the proprietor, that ifc is m\a% built for him in connection with Mr Thos. Scotfc, of Lower Rangitikei. Mr Dahl is to pursue the business of a draper and general storekeeper, and is to retail to all who will patronise him articles of the best quality and at Mr Thos. Scott's prices, which are uot to be rivalled. Mr Lewers has a gentleman resident here three days in the week, and who has been doinu a very good business, but unless he can sell at Mr Dahl's prices he will have to succumb.

Before I close I must tell yon there is another wedding on the tapin. You will pardon me if I quote the works from the song, "Another good man gone wrong."
