THE RAILWAY TIMETABLE.
The Wanganui Herald thus refers to the projected alteration in the timetable : — The railway to Waverley is expected to be opened by the end of February, At that date it is probable the time tables north I and south of Wanganui will uudeigo revision and that a new table with radical alterations will come into force. Experience has shewn that the passenger traffic from Wanganui by the 7 a.m. train is limited in the extreme, proving that it does not hit the public convenience. By delaying the morning train to say 11 a.m. business men in Wanganui would have the opportunity of first attending to their work in town before leaving for the country, returning by the evening train as usual We should not recommend any alteration in the trains into town. The early morning I train from the country is a convenience that could cot be dispensed with, while the evening through trains are necessary both for the return of the country travellers and the conveyance of the mails. The opening of the line to Waverley will enable the through daily service between New Plymouth and Wanganui to be conducted easily. Passengers from the North would reach town about 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. The proposed alterations have not yet been decided upon as Mr Rotheram is engaged making enquiries into the matter.
