THE SANDON RAILWAY PETITION.
: * TO THE EPITOB Ol' THE MANAWATTT HEn.\T,D t S.k,— The unwarrantable attack made by Mr Gower on the promoters of a petition, asking the Governor to withhold the consent to the making of fche Foxton-Sandon Raii way, and branding them as_ cowards, mean and dishonest frauds, can only fall back oh the head of Mr Gower, " the Unstable." As lhe promoter of this petition, you will allow me, Mr Editor,to answer this good, virtuous, but very incongruous Mr Gower. Mr Gower considers the petition a determined attempt on the part of some of the inover9 to escape payment of their firsfc call. Just so ! my most chartgeabld Mr Gower ! From the first day when you and Mr Sanson mismanaged the railway affairs, . I gave you notice that nofc oue penny of my n.oney would be paid, unless you and yours acted lawfully and honestly in the conducting of your scheme. I pointed out to you everything I intended tq do ; not one action was taken by me or my friends without' giving' you duo notico ; every illegal step you did we drew your attention lo iti and you call the promoter of Uhe petition mean and cowardly, my very vacillating Mr Gower ! If you foolishly have spent your and your employer's money, you had the satisfaction of having some returned to you by your grateful chairman, for services rendered. My endqa voris, aiid always has bo^n.to connect Foxton with the outlying districts, and m} reason for advocating a good road versus railway, would take too much space of the paper t>> explain, but I am willing to give a full exposition before a pubic in«eting. You charge the promoters with deceiving the ratcpiyers, by askng jthem to sign this petition. Tlio petition sets forth distinctly why it has been written; and I shall challenge you to say if you aud yours did not obtain names to your share list by false representation, and the actions pf si»in«.;of, your friends were so shady that you could not support them, when it came ; to tlie point; and you ell the promoter of 'this petition dishonest, my very inconsistent Mr Gower! I hai inteiu'ed to have 'written in a pelimusque danuctqtte vicissim style, but after consideration, I will not follow in your footsteps, for I am afraid you havo moved lately in very bad compaiiy.my most incompatible .Mi Gower. lv conclusion I will not take notiae of any further lttack from this undetermined Mr Gowcv. :• .■ ;»: ' ' Yours consistentl}', F. UopKSTIIOW. Foxton, Dec amber 1 5.-'
