ANNUAL MEETTNU.
The animal meeting of iho Council was held at noon on Wednesday. Present — Messrs Macarthur (Chainmm) M'Lonnan, Gray, llookstrow, iYl'Heth and Douglas. The Chairman said he had jtist received a telegiam from Mr Linton, Baying he would be unable to attend the meeting. The Chairman read the clauses of the Act bearing on the business to be transact* d at thr annual meeting] and said that the first duty of tho Council would be to elect a Chairman for the ensuing year, Mr Ttockstrow proposed, " That Councillor D 11. Macarfchur be appointed Chairman for the year 1830-81." In doing so he eulogised Mr Macarthur's past conduct as Chairman. Mr M'Lennan sesonded the motion, which was carrifid unanimously, The Chairman thanked the Council for the renewed proof of confidoi>C9 in him it had just given, and frr the complimentary terns in which the motion had been pro posed. He would take this opportunity of thanking the Council for the assistance given in the |>ast in conducting tho business. There had of course been differences of opinion, but all the members had, he I'olk'Vou 1 , worked for one common end, — tho advancement of the County. . During the past year they had seen satisfactory results in thin rliivcMon, and he hoped that during tho present year equally marked progress wunld be nrn-lc, lie again thanked them for electing him to the chair
