« , Tuesday, November 16, 1880. (Before E. S. Thynne, Esq., J.P.) DRUNK AND INCAPABLE. George Grey, a rather dilapidated and very seedy looking individual, was charged with having been drunk and incapable the previous day. Prisoner pleaded guilty. Constable M'Anulty deposed to seeing Grey lying drunk on the Avenue. He therefore ran him in. Fined 5s and • costs, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Grey had to take it out. STEALING A WATCH CHAIN. John R. Considine was charged ' with stealing a watch-chain from Futter's Hotel, and on the application , of Constable M'Anulty was remanded until the following day.

Wednesday, November 10, 1880. (Bofore R. Ward, Esq., R.M., and E. S. Thynne, Eeq , J.Jf.) DRUNKENNESS. ' '4/ Wiremu Te Whitu was charged with having been drunk in the streets of Foxton on Tuesday last Constable M'Anulty proved the case, and defendant was fined 10s and costs. FURIOUS RIDING. : Andrew Jonson, Ihariara, and Ihakara (three boys), were charged with furious riding in the main street of Foxton on 18th inst. The defendants all admitted the charge. It appeared from the boys' statements that Ihakara had thrown stones at Jonson, upon which tho latter " went " for him ; the other and bigger Maori then chased Jonson on horseback through the town, accompanied by the other defendant. Two witnesses were in attendance, but were not called. The Bench fined Jonson 5s and costs, 10s ; Ihararia 5s and costs, 10s ; and Ihakara 5s and costs, 9s. The defendants were informed tigpt they had rendered themselves liable to a penalty of £10, and if they appeared again on a similar charge they would be heavily punished. LARCENY. John E. Considine was charged with having stolen a gold chain from Futter'* hotel, the property of Robert Birch, of the value of £4. Accused pleaded guilty. He said he did not remember much about it. Constable M'Anulty said the prisoner was not an industrious man, and loafed about hotels. The Bench said they would hear the circumstances of the case. Robert Birch, a carpenter, said he missed the chain from Futter's hotel, where he was staying ; he thereupon gave information to the police ; he had had the chain for about 10 years, and valued it at £4 ; he left the chain in the box in his room ; he heard it was found on Monday ; he had lost it for a week. Henry Burr, traffic clerk on the railway ; said— l know the accused ; he offered me the chain for sale last Sunday evening ; he told me he had bought a chain, locket, and some other things; he offered me the locket and chain for £2 ; I told him to bring it to the office ; I showed it to George Gray, who told me to have nothing to do with it ; I told accused later in the day that I would not take it. Prisoner said he had nothing to say in defence. The Bench said as prisoner had pleaded guilty, and this was his first offence, he would be dealt with leniently. He was sentenced to four months' imprisonment with hard labour in Wanganui Gaol. CIVIL CASE. Buckley v. Ward. —Claim £4 8s for work done. This was a dispute^ between the parties as to the amount and value of work plaintiff had done for the defendant clearing bush. After a patient hearing, the Bench, gave judgment for £2; plaintiff to pay costs, and 7s to Ward's witness.
