Several letters were received from per* sons re rates due from them. RETURNING OFFICBBB. Mr Bookstrow said the ridings of Oroua and Taonui were without Returning officers. Messrs Tomlinson and P. Warburton were appointed for Oroua and Taonui respectively. LANS * BOARDS. The resolution sent from the Fatea Council, to the effect that it was desirnble County Councils should be appointed Lands Boiirds for their respective districts, came up for discussion. Mr Hockstrow asked whether the expenses of the Council would be increased He would object to spending ratepayers' money in selling land for the Government,. The Chairman said that of course the cost of administration would be charged against the price of the land. Several members spoke upon the question, the general opinion beiug that the scheme proposed by the Patea Council would work I well, and tend to the more rapid settlement I of land. Mr Sanson moved—" That in the opinion of this Coancil the waste lands of the County can be better administered by the various Councils than by the Land Boards as at present, and that we co operate with (he Fatea Council in its endeavour to secure the same." Seconded by Mr Keb' bell, and carried. FERRYING CATTLE. The Engineer having teported upon the very greut inconvenience caused by cattle being drafted from the paddocks at Foxtou to the ferry along the road, Mr Rockstrow followed up the matter by a speech in whioh he urged the importance of action being taken to prevent the present abuses. He moved, " That the lessee of the Foxton ferry be instructed not to cross any cattle unless they are taken out of the paddock by the way approved by this Council." ■Seconded by Mr Kobbell and carried. KETRENOBMENT. Mr Linton then moved, " That the adoption of the report of the Committee at the late meeting of this Council be rescinded, and that the report of the Committee be recommitted." Seconded by Mr Rockstrow, and carried. IN COMMITTEE. The Council then went into committee, a nd the resolution calling tenders for the Qounty advertising was rescinded.
