WANDERING CATTLE AT OTAKI.
TO THE EDITOR OP TUB MANAWATU HBIULO. Sir,- I wish to make a few re marks in regard to Hoani Taipuu's letter, which appeared in your valuable paper of July 6th. He is very sore with the Highways Board in reference to the proceedings of the Otaki constable in suing the people of Otaki for their cattle and horsea straying on the public roads. If Hoani Taipua had taken the trouble to enquire, he would have known that the constable had only sued the Europeans yet, and also if he had "taken the trouble to look round, he would see no native cattle straying on the streets. But I fancy the Pakehas have been too much for pour John ; they have made the bullets and got innocent John to fire them. And I wish also to state that those who have paddocks of their own should be troubled with other people's cattle is very hard, and it is not the Maori we have to guard against but the whit6s, I am, &c, Otaki. Otaki, July, 7, 1880.
