From Treasury Office, showing returns from Land Revenue. From Councillors Laah and Loudon, applying for leave of absence. Mr. LishV application was granted. From T. Itoioh, requesting payment of quarter's salary. Granted. From Messra S. and i-l. Collis, Kerere, re bush felling on road line. From Survey Offioe, Wellington, re subdivision of highways, &c. Tho Chairmau said thoy had given back hundreds of pounds to the ilauawatu Highways Board ue subsidies for, their ro^ds, and., lia did not consider the Cduncil should be 1 charged forthe use of toe rolls. A letter was read from several natives at Poroutawhao, informing the Council of j their , claim to the land through which the FoxtOri-Otaki road would pass The Chairman explained that the course proposed to be undertaken in regard tn the matter was to do the same as they had dono in regard to the road from Foxton to the beach, and take the land under section 2 of the Public Works Act, and let the native* claim compensation. Ho had informed Mr Snowies of the- aetio'n- proponed to be taken.
