Since Mr Bryce .assumed; office he has reduced the charges by £1,497, having abolished altogether 29 of the pensions, and reduced 26 amounts by sums varying from £80 t-j £5. Amongst T ftioW •w*4ose7?am§sljiave. been' struck off altogether are Ihakava Tukumam and Noa te Rauhihi. Also six vacancies, amounting in value to £240, have not been filled up by the Government, making a total saving of £1,737, but a^insjrtihisjis ,to be placed additions to the list by 'Mr Bryce, amounting in value to £340, which reduces the actual sav-' ing on the year to £1,397. The " Permanent charges on Civil List " at present therefore amount to £4,870, of which only £100 comes to this district, being the £100 granted to Matene te Whiwhi.
