FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the above Committee was held at Messrs Thynne, Linton & Co. 'a office on Wednesday last, at 2 p.m. Present — Messrs Thynne (Cliairman), Burgess, Gray, ani M'Auulty. A letter was read from the Education Board, enclosing oopy of a resolution passed at laat meeting of the Board, with reference to a letter sent by Mr Hulke, master of the JToxton School, to Mr Sauson, a member of the Board. The following resolution was passed : — Proposed by Mr Burgess, seconded by Mr M'Anulty, '• That Messrs M'Anulty, Stewart, and tho Chairman enquire at the school concerniug the statements made in Mr Hulke's letter to Mr Sauson." Carried. In accordance with a suggestion m ide by the master, it was resolved to alter tht; hours of school attendance from two in the afternoon to haif-past one, the children to leave at half' past two instead of four. This was all thu business, and the Committeo then adjourned. Mb Hulkm and Inspector Fouus. The following is the text of tko lettrv saut by Mr Hulke to Mr Sanson, member of the Education Board, regarding Mr Inspector Poulis : — Foxton, May 23, 1880. Siu, — I beg to protest against the report of Mr Inspector Foulis being taken as evidence of the state of the schools in this district, on the ground that during his examination of the schools he did not confo m to the regulutions of September 24, 1878. That places mentioned by him are not to be found on tho maps, or in the books in cur schools. That his historical facts differ materially from those contained in our text books. That his pronunciation of common English words is so bad that children cannot understand him. That slates were so carelessly marked that teachers can pay uo ;itten L .io:i to his classification or to his judgmout. Thut iv his roporc of tho Foxton school ho writhe, " i'hts infants spelt und read fairly," although ho did not examine any of them. I have, &c, Chas. Hulke.
