The following is the text of tko lettrv saut by Mr Hulke to Mr Sanson, member of the Education Board, regarding Mr Inspector Poulis : — Foxton, May 23, 1880. Siu, — I beg to protest against the report of Mr Inspector Foulis being taken as evidence of the state of the schools in this district, on the ground that during his examination of the schools he did not confo m to the regulutions of September 24, 1878. That places mentioned by him are not to be found on tho maps, or in the books in cur schools. That his historical facts differ materially from those contained in our text books. That his pronunciation of common English words is so bad that children cannot understand him. That slates were so carelessly marked that teachers can pay uo ;itten L .io:i to his classification or to his judgmout. Thut iv his roporc of tho Foxton school ho writhe, " i'hts infants spelt und read fairly," although ho did not examine any of them. I have, &c, Chas. Hulke.
