RESIDENT, MAGISTRATE'S COURT, OTAKI.
Tuesday. May 11, 1880. (Before Messrs Simcox and Hadfield, and Dr Hewson, J.P.'s.) CRIMINAL CASES. John Bryant was charged with^ having assaulted Constable Mitchell on the -fourth of May by "kicking him iii the jaw whilst in the execution of his duty." Fined £5 and costs, 9s; in default one month's imprisonment with hard labour in Wanganui Gaol. Elma Greer was charged with having stolen the sum of 10s from Greenough's Hotel on or about the 15th April. Case dismissed. Mudgway Greer was charged with receiving on or about 15th April cne baby's dress, knowing the same to have been stolen. Case withdrawn. Mary Harvey, a Maori, charged being drunk and disorderly in the main street of Otaki on the 21sfc April, was fined 5s and costs, 7s ; in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Thomas Williams, a half-caste, for being drunk and disorderly in the main street of Otaki on the 21st April, was fined 5s and cost, 7s, or 24 hours' imprisonment. Francis Rumsey was charged with resisting Constable Mitchell in the execution of his duty. On the application of defendant the case was adjourned till next Court day— June 8, — to enable him to procure witnesses. CIVIL CASES. Win. Smith v. Thos. Seymour. — 'Claim £11 0s 7d, for balance of account rendered. Judgment by consent for amount and costs, 15s. Paris Anderson v. F. G. Abel.— Claim £4 10s, on a judgment summons. Ordered that the amount be paid within seven days, in default 14 days' imprisonment in Wanganui Gaol. .
