ENGINEER'S REPORT.

Since last meeting. I have had nearly the whole of thedamage9 done by the late flood repaired. Through tliis, the present paysheet is far in excess of any previous month. Most of tho metalling contracts are finished, and the3e, together with the repairs to ferries, make the voucher now furnishod for payment very heavy. KAWAKAWA RIDING. Eoad is in tolerably good repair, and scrubbed sand cuttings stand very well. The Manawatu Highways Board have called tenders for formation on Hickford's line; the bush felling on Bame road is finished. AWAHOTJ RIDING. Nothing of importance to report about in this riding, except Mr Fowell is pushing on his contract of formation and metalling Otaki-Foxton Road. The Foxton Local Board are calling tenders for the expenditure of the £200 voted by this Council for the Avenue Boad. HOBOWHENUA HIDING. The bush felling and clearing from Otaki to the Horowhenua Block is just about finished. I would ask for authority from this Council to call tenders for felling buah through the Horowhenua Blook, as the natives are not willing to do the work except at an exorbitant figure. BRIDGES AND FERRIE3. I Both ferries are in good working order again. The Foxton punt we found leaked very much when put in the water, through the strain she had when she grounded on the fencing post. The consequence was we had to beach her the second time, and repair and caulk her all over. A wahuri bridge is now St for traffic. I shall have to shut it up for 3 or 4 days during the next month, to drive 3 piles, after which it can be thrown open again fot taffic. I would ask for authority to sheath the piers of this brid«re, so as to present a smooth surfac3 for snags to glide by instead of hooking into tho p i- les. U. J. Hayns.
