ENGINEER'S REPORT.

I have not been able to carry out your instructions of last meeting on account of the heavy fresh in the Manawatu District doing so much damage, and these damages taking up nearly the whole of my time in seeing to repairs. No 1 Wabd. The contractor on Speedy's line has nearly the whol<? of the stringers and the bank timbor ready. I received a letter from contractor for metalling Fagan's line. By it you will see he has not yet started to work. Contractor on Freoklington's line is pushing on his work. Nathan has completed his contract of metalling Penny's line, and made a very gond job of same. I have called tenders for metalling Cemetery road at Sandon. No '2 Waud. L. R. Bryant and Co. have nearly completed their contract on Whale Line of road, there only remaining now one sand cutting to sci ub and one small cutting to take out. I have instructed Mr Scott to replace a rotten broker culvert near his house, with a new one. Hiokford is pushing on the bush felling and clearing on Hickford's Line. I expect in about a fortnight he will have it finished. No 3 Waiu). The fresh has done some slight damage to the Motoa lioail, which 1 am having repaired. I have called tenders for the widening the main drain at Foxton. I would recommend the clearing out of drain near Charles Symons' property ; at present time it is nearly full with rubbish. Nos. 4, 5, 6, 1 Wabds. The Manawatu County Council are about to call tenders for bush felling and clearing in Fitzherbert and Kiwitea districts. The Road lines at Kitzherbert are, Ist, — That from township southward to boundary ; 2ud that from Newcombe's northwards boundary. The road lines in Kiwitea are those in the now block. In the course of a week I shall be prepared to set out and prepare plans and specifications for the work ordered last mouth . I would recommend tliat the lagoon leading to Stace's property should bo seen to and a coat of metal spread across the bottom of the Lagoon.
