MANAWATU HIGHWAYS BOARD.

The above Board met at Palmerston on Friday last, when all the Wardens were present. We collate the following items from the Manawatu Times : — Mis3r« J. Carter and Bracken attended as a deputation from settlers on the Douglas Block, and asked that £20 might be given towards forming an outlet for the water on Jones' line. The deputation promised that if the Board would vote that amount, the settlers would do the work themselves . The Board promised the sum nsked for, on condition that it was not to be paid for six months, the work to bo done to tho satisfaction of the Engineer. Mr Edwards, senr., and others, attended as a deputation from Mou*oa, and asked that £150 of the £200 subudy from the County Council for the Moutoa road might be spent in improving the road from Elkins' corner towards the Schoolhouse, The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer, the County Council having subsidised the Board on that condition. The following tenders were received : — Main Drain, Foxton.— H. Webb and Co., at £2 10s per chain, accepted. G. Hansen, at £3 per chain ; John Gucrin. at £2 12s ; Thomas Bowe, at £3 10s pe* chain. Cemetery Road, Sandon. — Metalling and grvellinsr Cemetery Road. C. Rosenthal, at £4 Bs, accepted. Robert Garret, at £4 7s 6d per chain ; F. Basset, at £5 14s ; J. C. Nathan, at ±"6 ; A. W. Hedges, at £8 ; J. Thompson, at £5 12s Gd.
