FOUND DROWNED. The body of T. V. Trice wa9 on Tuesday last found floating in Virginia Lake. At tbe inqnest held yesterday a verdict of " Found drowned" was returned. "NT ==g ADVERTISEMENT. . From the Wellington Evening Chronof 24th January, 1880. the Ist September, 1879, an article appeared in the Evening headed " Halcombe Vivi sected," animadverting in severe terms upon Mr A. W. F. Halcombe, of Feilding, who was then a candi- ' date for the representation of the Manawatu District in the House of Representatives, and was, and still is, the agent of the Emigrants' and and Colonists' Aid Corporation. Besides the criticism upon Mr Halcombe's position as a public man, the article made statements aVout him in his private capacity, which have been made the subject of an action for libel in the Supreme Court Since the commencement of that action, th<» proprietors of the Evening Chronicle have ascertained that the statements made by ihe writer of the article reflecting upon Mr Halcombe fn his private capacity were incorrect, and especially the statements that Mr Halcombe was " plucked " at an English University, and that he has mismanaged the Feilding Settlement It has, theriJbre, been arranged that the action .jjhall be withdrawn by Mr Halcombe, proprietors of this journal paying costs, and expressing theii regret that tho incorrect statements above referred to as to that gentleman, especially as to his University career and management o£ the Emigrants' and ■£*loni6ts' Aid Corporation, sbouldTbave appeared in their newspaper.
