FOXTON REGATTA, 1880. SETTLING UP NIGHT.

A meeting of the Foxton Regatta Committee was held at Why te's Hotel on Tuesday evening last, at 7.30 p.m. Present —Messrs Russell (Chairman), Shore (Secretary), Burgess, Stewart, l*att, Liddell, Young, and Howe. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The first busiuess was a protest entered by A. Jonson, who vo«E§dthe Electra in the sculler's raco, against H. Burr, who rowed the King JohV The substance of the protest Svas, twK"H there being no flag visible, as it had ** been knocked off the snag by one of tbe bouts when rounding, the two rowel's had no point to pull round, and that Burr did not go so far up tbe river as Jonson. Mr Jonson expvessed his willingness to surrender his protest, provided the prize was handed over to the Rowing Club. Mr ftowe, who entered the King John, expressed his willingness to do this, and the matter was amicably settled. Several members, however, expressed themselves to the effect that Mr Jonson's protest was not legal, not having been made immediately on the close of the race. It was reported that the protest entered by the Waterlily crew against the Transit, for fouling, was .disallowed, and the decision of the result uf the race for second prize being a dead heat, it was ordered to be divided between the two crews. The balance sheet was then read and adopted. From it wo learn that the receipts amounted to £69 10s lid, as follows : — Balance from last year, £8 3ssd; entrances. £6 16s; sub* scriptions, £41 2s 6d ; deductions from prizes, £3 8s ; nett proceeds of concert, £10 Is. The expenditure was as follows : — Accounts for last year's regatta, £2 7s 6d ; prize lisf, £53 10s ; rebate of excess entrances to Wanganui Clubs, £1 ; advertising and printing, £4 9s 8d; sundries, £l Is 5d ; balance in hand, £7 2s 4d. Inrigged— Queen Mab— F.R.C. fi 0 2. „ Transit and Waterlily dead heat, divide ... 210 Swimming Match ... ... 2 0 Greasy P01e ... ... ... 1 0 Total ... ... ... £63 10 The following resolutions were passed : — Proposed oy Mv Russell, seconded by Mr Stewart, " That the thanks of the Committee be accorded to Messrs Shore, Batt, Young, and Bur^oss, for the euergy and spirit with which they ful li lied their respective duties." Carried. Proposed by Mr Stewart, seconded v by Mr Liddell, " That the thauks of, the Committee be given to Mr John Russell for his energy in getting up the concert in aid of the regatta funds j also to Mr Uobb and friends, and the other performers for their valuable assistance."
