Robinson, late Governor of Straits Settlements, has been appointed Governor of Western Australia. Ab advance on the Waimate Plains has been made. About 200 men this morning proceeded as far as Kapanui stream, five miles on Plains side of Waingongoro, where encampment has-been formed. Road formation on a large scale has been commenced, and tenders are this evening called for metalling. A requisition to the Mayor is being got up, asking him to call a meeting to consider the extravagant official expenditure of Corporation. There were eighteen defaulters in the Land Tax cases this morning. Twelve cases were settled out of Court, and none- tried, another day's time being allowed remaining six to settle.
