" SUFFERER " IN REPLY.

TO THEEDITOttOF TUB MANAWATU HERALD. Sib— Whilst reading jour paper of the 23rd inst. I came across a letter from Mr J. \V. Gower, County Councillor, Justice of the Peace, and Private Citizen kc, in which he denies the charges in my letter of 12th - inst. regarding the stock under his charge, or belonging to him, trespassing on publicroads, and stating that I would have made out a better case against him if I had giveii dates, &c, I now furnish him with the same, and in case the poor gentleman should lose any sleep trying to guess the name, I shall sign in full, so he will know_ it' the guess which he hazarded, wjs right, jtfr Gower, and judge by his quotations, should^ know the difference between "was" and \ "are." In my letter I stated " was, " but he ignores the " was" and states there " are" i few better fenced, &c. I again say that 1 until he was ordered to remove his gate from the road the stock in his charge or 1 belonging to him grazed on the main road~^|| between Foxton and Sandon, aiid "travellers had to be careful when it was dark on ac- «• 1 count of stock camping on road. Now, because he is fenced, every person must immediately do the same. He then starta with "First," in which he gives us his opinion regarding plunderers, &<?. I wonder if it is from experience ho writes, or does he hazard another guess. 1 pass over ' all the rest of his tirade under that heading, as harmless to myself; but with the sincere hope tint the next timo he attempts to make a whip for the right back he will see that the tail is on pro, erly. That part of 1 his letter which I suppose ho intended to be " secondly, " speaks as if ho knew all 1 about the people in India, but whether from personal experience amongst theiu, or front his dtep researches I am unable to say. " Thirdly," I presume, has yet to come, I am &c, One who intends shortly to bo a fenced Manawatu Settler, A. Waikek. Moutoa, 27th September, 1879.
