FOXTON LOCAL BOARD.
Friday, September 19, 1879. The newly-elected Local Board held its first meeting on Friday last, at 3 p.m. Present— Messrs. Gray, "Whyte, Coley, and Easton. Mr F. K. (jrowther, Chairman of the late Board, attended and opened the f meeting by reading the minutes, wMch were confirmed. He then called upon the Board to nominate successor. Ay Coley proposed Mr Loudon. Ti:'i motion was not seconded. Mr Easton proposed Mr Wbyte, he vuo afc the head of the poll. :Mr Gray thought that a good reason why Mr Whyte should be elected Mr Whyte declined to accept the appointment. Mr Gray was then proposed by Mg.Whyfce, seconded by Mr Coloy. The motion being put by Mr Crow ther, was carried unanimously. Mr Crowther then retired, and Mr Gray took the chair. In reply to the Chairman, the Clerk stated that there was a balance in the Bank of £ll 5. Letter read from the Colonial Secretdiy, asking the Board to furnish an accounc of its financial position, in accordance with a resolution of the House of Representatives. Request granted, and return ordered to be sent. The Chairman handed in a letter Mr J. W. Gower had received from fe the Commissioner of Crown Lands. Bit appeared Mr Gower had applied to Tthat official, asking in whom was vested section 30, Heserye, Moutoa Block, - containing 69 acres. The Commissioner replied that as it had not been set apart for any particular purpose, it would be quite in order for the Foxton Local Board to apply for it.— Mr Gray though*; the Board should, if it were obtained, leass the land by public tender. The Chairman was instructed to write to the Colonial Secretary, asking that the reserve might be vested in the Local Board. Letter read from Mr Archibald Moinet, asking the Board to lease tc him for a term section 44, fronting the Avenue Road, and containing J of an acre.— The Chairman stated th( land in question was under treaty tc himself, and had been so for a, yeai or two past, in exchange for a sectioi he proposed to give up for a roadway He expected that a special Act wouh be passed through Parliament durinj the ensuing session, to deal with thi question.— Mr Whyte said he knev such was-Lho 'case, but the Boar< could not take official notice of th fact, unless the matter came directl; before it.
